As a Lendlease centre, Plumpton Marketplace is big on connecting with our local community and giving back in any way we can. It’s also what’s at the heart of The Good Day Collective campaign. We believe engaging with our community is vital and offers bucket loads of benefits for us all. It improves our mental health and emotional well-being and gives us a sense of belonging and social connectedness. What’s more, by giving back to those in need and supporting local businesses, we help each other thrive.

And surprise – surprise, giving back feels good, too!

Lendlease has partnered with like-minded organisations to strengthen our ability to impact people’s lives positively for several years. You may have heard of some of our Shared Value Partners–they include well-known charities such as the Lifeblood, the Great Barrier Reef Foundation and OzHarvest.

Lendlease supports these partners in many ways. But we’ve also made it super easy for you to get in the community spirit and join us in supporting these causes.

Australian Red Cross – Lifeblood

Did you know that one blood donation can save up to three lives? That’s big news. And one donation is needed every 18 seconds. Hundreds of thousands need regular blood transfusions to help with their medical conditions. Blood is also needed in emergencies and for specific cancer treatments.

To get involved, start by downloading the Donate Blood app for iPhone or Android.

The Donate Blood app makes booking life-giving appointments a breeze.

  • Register to be a blood donor with Lifeblood
  • Book and manage appointments, then sync with your calendar so you remember
  • Find your nearest Lifeblood donor centre with opening hours and directions
  • Watch your donation tally grow
  • Check when you can give life again with the donation countdown
  • See whether you’re eligible to donate and find the answers to FAQs
  • Monitor your health stats (like your blood pressure)

If you don’t want to download the app, we can help you find a nearby donation centre. See our list of local donation centres here.

Giving blood has benefits for you, too. Studies show that giving blood may reduce your risk of heart disease, and it might also help reduce your blood pressure (if it’s too high). You’ll also have a chance to chat with the local crew, have a cuppa and bickies or snacks and enjoy that priceless feel-good sensation of helping others.

Great Barrier Reef Foundation (GBRF) Australia

The Great Barrier Reef is one of the seven wonders of the natural world. But in 1998, the first mass coral bleaching event devastated the reef, killing one in 12 of the world's corals. In 1999, the Great Barrier Reef Foundation (GBRF) was established to help protect the reef.

The GBRF is the largest reef habitat rehabilitation project in the southern hemisphere so they need all the help they can get. They offer  five super-easy ways you can help save the reef — and be kinder to the planet:

  1. Cut down on food waste - by only buying what you need.
  2. Be water wise - make small changes like cutting you shower time to 4 minutes
  3. Say no to single-use plastics - choose alternatives like bees wax wraps & cloth shopping bags
  4. Switch off unused electric appliances - to reduce harmful emissions that contribute to climate change
  5. Swap your car for your bike, walk or use public transport.

You can also help by playing video games!
The Great Barrier Reef Foundation has partnered with international gaming-for-good leaders Sankari Studios to launch a new video game so anyone with a smartphone can help protect the Great Barrier Reef.

The game is free to download for iPhone and Android. Philanthropists convert in-game points into real-world funding that goes directly towards the Foundation’s work to regenerate 250 hectares of critical seagrass meadows on the Reef. The more people play, the more funding goes to helping the Reef survive the impacts of climate change.

OzHarvest – Australia

OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation – and it’s an astounding success story. OzHarvest was founded by Ronni Kahn, AO, in 2004 after noticing the enormous volume of food going to waste.

Starting with just one van, she began rescuing food from events, restaurants, supermarkets, hotels and other businesses and disturbing it to those in need. Today, OzHarvest operates nationwide with the aim of halving food waste by 2030.

There are loads of ways you can help make a difference. Shop at Woolworths or Coles at Sunshine Plaza, and you’ll spend at one of OzHarvest’s biggest food donor, providing over half of the organisation's rescued food. Plus, you can individually donate to OzHarvest in-store or online.

Fun fact: With every OzHarvest donation, $1 = 2 meals! So, every dollar makes a difference.

There are so many great ways to connect with the community and contribute positively. Besides, doing good is infectious – it’s fun and feels good – and we can’t complain about that!
